Tree of life - Institute for the Development of Human Values

The Institute for the Development of Human Values

Print

The Institute for the Development of Human Values is led by a team devoted to lifelong learning and instilling noble values, knowledge and skills which facilitate personal development and fulfilment of an individual’s full potential. We cultivate this holistic approach in three main areas:

1. Spirituality and meaning,
2. Physical and emotional wellbeing and
3. Contribution to society.

We have chosen the tree of life analogy because it clearly describes the three parts which contribute to the wellbeing of the entire tree in a unique way:

1. The root,
2. The trunk and
3. The treetop with fruits.

These tree parts relate to areas in a person’s life. The root of the tree is mostly invisible to others, as well as personal spiritual practice and an individual’s search for meaning and wisdom. This is the root of the most profound and the most important areas of human existence, the basis for value systems and essential relationships of man with nature, other living things and the ultimate purpose – God.

The trunk of the tree is its first clearly visible part. It shows the life power evident in people in both the physical and emotional sphere. This is an expression of a person’s lifestyle which reflects their ideals. It is a material expression of a person’s position in this world and their way of dealing with life’s challenges. All of the diversity in this area is manifested through our relationships with others.

The treetop and its fruits are an analogy of a person’s contribution to the world, i.e. their influence on other people’s lives and their own surroundings, including nature.

In order to achieve balance in personal and social endeavours, it is important to develop these three aspects of life in equal measure. In other words, we need to:
1. Nourish our spiritual goal,
2. Regulate our habits and
3. Cultivate selfless giving to others.

A higher level of existence is achieved through a higher level of connection. A higher level of connection is best achieved by socializing with those people who have already achieved it in their life. We want to enable you to learn from people who have achieved balance and wisdom worthy of living and sharing in all important areas of life.

Heartfelt regards.
